ASVAB Exam - 12/11/23

The   Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)   is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military. It is administered annually to more than one million military applicants, high school, and post-secondary students. Although it is most widely used with candidates for the military, the assessment provides valuable information to all students, as it encourages them to explore a wide variety of careers, rather than limiting their exploration by telling them what they can or should do. Important Financial Aid & College Application Updates - Class of 2024

  Dear Students and Families of the Class of 2024 -   Please read this message in its entirety - there are a lot of updates regarding the financial aid and college application process at HHS.   You may have heard that there will be a significant overhaul of the processes and systems used to award federal student aid starting with the 2024–25 award year, which includes streamlining the  Free Application for Federal Student  Aid (FAFSA®) form. Here are the highlights: The FAFSA form previously opened on October 1st for the following academic year; in 2023, the FAFSA is currently projected to open in December to file for the 2024–25 award year. New term:  Contributor – Someone who is required to provide information on the FAFSA form. The new FAFSA is role-based, meaning that each contributor accessing the form will only see their section. The Direct Data Exchange (DDX) replaces the Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) to access tax information from the IRS. All contribu...

Reminder - Nuts & Bolts of the College Application Process

  Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),  Just a quick reminder about tomorrow's event,  Nuts & Bolts of the College Application Process!  Join the school counselors as they walk you through the logistics of the college application process (including an overview of the Common App, Scoir, financial aid, standardized testing, and more!).  This event is geared towards parent(s)/guardian(s) of seniors applying to colleges, however, families of all grades are welcome to attend.  No RSVP necessary. We are expecting this event to last approximately 45 minutes - 1 hour. Save the Date - MetroWest College and Career Fair - 3/18

The  MetroWest   College  and Career  Fair   will take place on  Saturday, March 18, 2023  from  9:00 – 12:00 pm  at the Ashland High School located at 65 E. Union Street in Ashland, MA.  The  college  and career  fair  is free and open to the public. The fair will give students and parents from MetroWest area high schools the opportunity to speak with representatives from over 100 colleges, universities and gap-year options, as well as provide students with an opportunity to engage with professionals from over 50 unique careers.  In addition, there will be ongoing speakers to discuss topics such as the college application process, financial aid, and SAT/ACT’s. Join us on Zoom for the GPA Game on Wednesday, 12/7 @ 5 pm!

Please join us this Wednesday for our college planning kickoff event for the Class of 2024, the HHS GPA Game. This event will be held virtually via Zoom on Wednesday, December 7th, at 5:00 p.m. and is expected to last roughly 45-60 minutes. A recording will be made available afterwards. A link will be sent out prior to the event. Although this event is geared towards parent(s)/guardian(s) of juniors, all (including students) are invited to attend.  The GPA Game is a fun, mock-admission simulation for students and their families. The purpose of the game is to create awareness of the many factors that are considered in the college admissions process. We will also share a college-planning checklist with suggestions of what your student should be completing at points throughout the process.  If you have any questions, please reach out to your student's counselor. We hope to "see" you all on Zoom this Wednesday, December 7th.

SENIORS - Assembly Tomorrow (Thursday, 9/8) during DSB

The School Counseling Office will be holding a short, mandatory assembly for all students planning on applying to college for Fall of 2023 on Thursday, 9/8, during DSB. Please plan to attend as we will be going over important information on what you need to do in Scoir to ensure your documents end up in the right spot!

Class of 2023 College Application Bootcamp - Thursday, August 25 from 10-1 at HHS

Attention, Class of 2023:  We are thrilled to announce our third annual College Application Bootcamp for  students  in the Class of 2023 on  August 25, 2022 from 10 am - 1 pm at HHS (in-person).  School counselors will be hosting sessions on topics including: filling out the Common Application financial aid/scholarships brainstorming ideas for the essay the nitty gritty of Scoir (our new application management system replacing Naviance). More detailed descriptions of the sessions will be sent out closer to the event date. No pre-registration is required. Students can attend as many or as few sessions as they would like. Please note that we will also be offering similar sessions during DSB on dates to be announced in September and October, so if you are unable to attend this event, there will be other opportunities later this fall.  Other forms and valuable resources can be located on the  HHS School Counseling website .  Once we are...

2022 PSAT Registration - Grades 10 & 11

Registration for the PSAT/NMSQT begins Friday, August 26th!  This year, the PSAT will be offered to both 10th and 11th graders. It will be administered on a school day, Wednesday, October 12th. WHY TAKE THE PSAT?  Practice! Plus, with your scores you will be able to connect to the personalized test prep offered through Khan Academy that is designed for each individual student based on an analysis of their performance on the test.  WHAT IS NMSQT?  NMSQT stands for the "National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test."
